San Francisco Samoyed Rescue Policies
|
1. Purpose
The SFSR Rescue Committee shall operate primarily as a referral service conforming to the guidelines listed below.
● Locating appropriate adoptive families for displaced Samoyeds.
● Assisting people interested in adopting a Samoyed to find suitable dogs.
● Providing directions to sources of information, training tips, and personal contacts to Samoyed Owners in need of solving problems with their Samoyeds in order to prevent the need for them to place their Samoyeds in adoptive homes.
● Helping with lost and found Samoyeds.
● Keeping track of lost and found newspaper ads for Samoyeds.
● Try to match up lost with found Samoyeds.
● Have foster homes available for removing Samoyeds from shelters/humane societies/SPCA and for those owners that need to surrender their Samoyeds.
● Assist shelters/humane societies/SPCA in getting Samoyeds out from internment from the facility.
● Coordinate the flow of information on adoptions, lost and found Samoyeds or in shelters.
2. CRITERIA FOR LISTING DOGS
Any Samoyed that does not conform to the following criteria will not be listed.
● Only purebred Samoyeds or those that appear to be purebred (registered or un-registered).
● Age limit for placement shall be 8 (eight) years old. Older dogs will be reviewed by committee. Should be prepared with alternatives for older dogs.
● A Samoyed with a temperament problem or severe health problem will be reviewed by the committee.
● Listing does not guarantee placement.
3. FEES
The Adoptive Party that adopts a Samoyed through SFSR shall be asked to make a donation no less than $250 to the rescue fund. The Party that surrenders a Samoyed to SFSR shall be asked to make a donation of $50.00 to the rescue fund. All donations should be voluntary, however dogs which are placed in foster care will require a minimum donation to offset the reasonable costs of the care provided. The committee shall be responsible for determining what reasonable care constitutes.
● Owner Surrender Suggested Donation if dog is spayed or neutered - $50.00
● Owner Surrender Suggested Donation if dog is not spayed or neutered - $50.00 plus vet cost of spay or neutering.
● Owner Surrender Suggested Donation if owner is willing to keep the dog in house until placement - $10.00
● Adoption fees run from $250.00 to $500.00 depending on the expenses that the dog incurs.
4. RESCUES AND FOSTER HOMES
Foster homes are individuals who are willing to take in a Samoyed, give it care, attention, training, evaluate it and give it veterinary care if required. The foster home should insure the Samoyed will be confined properly either in a kennel or backyard with a secure fenced in area. Foster homes should follow the guidelines listed below.
● Contact the SFSR Committee if expenditures exceed $200.00.
● Provide the following documents to SFSR Committee for the reimbursement of expenditures.

● Spay and Neuter forms, veterinary bills and other approved expenditures.
● Send all donations to the SFSR Committee.
● Contact SFSR Committee when available to take dogs and/or assist another foster home that is overloaded.
● Contact SFSR Committee with information regarding dogs coming into foster home or going out.
● Provide information to prospective adoptive families about dogs currently in foster homes.
● Obtain prior approval from SFSR Committee for additional expenditures.
5. SFSR NEWSLETTER
● The newsletter should consist of the following items and information.
● Listing of foster homes.
● Individuals who need to place their Samoyeds. $10.00 donation
● Foster homes and other rescuers that have Samoyeds for adoption. Lost and found.
● Breeders, vendors,etc. who wish to advertise in the newsletter for a fee of $15.00 donation per year.
● Upcoming events.
● Information either pertaining directly to or affecting Samoyeds in this region.
● Subscription/membership information.
● Other advertising.
6. BUDGET
San Francisco Samoyed Rescue Incorporated Rescue Committee will be self supporting through donations, fees, advertising and fund raising activities to name a few methods of financial income. The following are anticipated expense areas; advertising, dog food, office supplies, grooming expenses, shelter fees, printing, veterinary fees, postage and telephone charges.
