What Is San Franciso Samoyed Rescue? |
San Francisco Samoyed Rescue is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization founded in 1974 to render help to needy or displaced Samoyed dogs. The objective of this group is to rescue Samoyeds in shelters or lost in the streets, relocate Samoyeds that are no longer wanted or that can no longer be cared for by their owners, and assist in securing veterinary attention for injured or sick Samoyeds. SFSR is not affiliated with San Francisco Samoyed Club, or any other Samoyed club. We operate independently and must generate our own donations and solicit volunteer help. |
The geographic range within which SFSR works is limited to Northern California, from Monterey County north, and east to the Nevada border. In special circumstances we may make an exception to this geographic limitation. However, because of our limited resources, we cannot guarantee coverage of areas outside Northern California. |
How Does SFSR Match Each Samoyed With a New Family? |
When SFSR receives a Samoyed needing placement, we do our best to match the dog with an appropriate home. We base this decision on a number of factors. When evaluating a dog we consider temperament, sociability, and personality of the dog, among other things. We also look at the home environment of the prospective adoptive family to determine if it is a good match for a specific dog, including such things as whether there are children or other dogs in the household, if there’s a yard, the time commitment family members can make to the dog, etc. Inappropriate placements can result in the dog coming back into rescue to be placed again. So we want to be sure that all involved parties, both human and canine, are happy with their new situation. |
What Is the Adoption Donation Used For? |
A donation is requested when a dog is adopted. This donation is not for a specific dog, but is made to SFSR to help us cover the costs of vet bills, food, and other expenses incurred by SFSR while helping all dogs in our care until they find a permanent home. While one dog may only need to have a heartworm test and be updated on vaccinations, another dog may cost us several hundred dollars in vet bills. The adoption donations help to balance out these expenses so we can help more dogs. Without these donations, we could not continue rescuing Samoyeds. So, when you adopt a Samoyed, you are actually helping more dogs than just the dog you adopt. |
Is My Membership or Donation Tax-Deductible? |
San Francisco Samoyed Rescue Inc. is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. A percentage of your membership is tax-deductible. Any donations made to SFSR that are not in exchange for goods or services are 100% tax deductible. Please see an authorized tax agent for details. |
